Windows FAQs
Almost any colour you like. We offer one of the widest colour ranges available across our product range. Our aluminium windows and doors are available in standard and bespoke RAL colours, with the option of different colours inside and out. Timber products can be finished in virtually any colour, while our uPVC range includes a wide selection of popular woodgrain and contemporary finishes, with additional RAL colours available through specialist colour coating.
Double glazing works by combining two panes of glass with an argon gas-filled gap between them, helping to reduce heat transfer. Our windows also feature Low-E glass, which reflects heat back into your home while still allowing natural light to pass through. Warm edge spacer bars further improve insulation by reducing heat loss around the edge of the sealed unit, helping your home stay warmer and more energy efficient.
Secondary glazing involves fitting an additional pane of glass to the inside of your existing window. It’s an excellent solution for listed buildings, conservation areas or homes where replacing the original windows isn’t possible. It improves thermal insulation, reduces outside noise and helps eliminate draughts without changing the appearance of your property.
Low-E (Low Emissivity) glass is fitted as standard in all of our windows and doors. It has a virtually invisible coating that allows heat from the sun to enter your home while reflecting indoor heat back inside. This helps improve energy efficiency, keeps your home warmer and can reduce heating costs.
Condensation occurs when warm, moist air comes into contact with a cold surface.
- Inside your home (on the room-facing side of the glass): Usually caused by high humidity and poor ventilation. Opening trickle vents, using extractor fans and improving airflow can help reduce it.
- Between the panes: This indicates the sealed unit has failed, allowing the insulating gas to escape. The sealed unit will need replacing.
- Outside the glass: This is completely normal on modern, energy-efficient windows and shows the glass is insulating your home effectively.
Keeping your windows and doors clean is simple and helps them stay looking their best.
For regular cleaning:
- Use a soft cloth or sponge with warm water and a small amount of washing-up liquid.
- Rinse with clean water and dry with a soft cloth.
For stubborn marks:
- uPVC: Use a specialist uPVC cream cleaner.
- Aluminium: Use washing-up liquid with minimal water and a soft or stiff fibre brush if required, then rinse thoroughly.
Avoid using:
- Glass cleaner on the frames (it’s fine for the glass only).
- Kitchen or bathroom cleaning sprays (such as bleach, mould remover or limescale remover).
- Abrasive creams or scouring powders (e.g. Cif Cream Cleaner).
- Scouring pads or steel wool (e.g. Brillo or SOS Pads).
- Caustic, ammonia-based or solvent cleaners (e.g. oven cleaner, paint thinner, white spirit or acetone/nail varnish remover).
These products can damage the finish and may affect your guarantee.

Doors FAQs
The cost of a double glazed door depends on the material, style, size and design options you choose. Features such as decorative or patterned glass, premium hardware, and bespoke finishes will increase the price, while double doors generally cost more than single doors.
Although off-the-shelf doors from DIY stores may appear cheaper, a made-to-measure door offers far better performance. A bespoke door is manufactured specifically for your opening, creating a perfect fit without the need for fillers or packing materials that can reduce energy efficiency and allow heat to escape.
At Broadland Windows, we provide high-quality, made-to-measure doors designed to improve security, insulation and the appearance of your home.
Our timber products are manufactured using a combination of Sapele and Meranti, both premium Far Eastern red hardwoods often referred to as mahogany species.
These timbers are responsibly sourced from managed plantations in the Philippines, Indonesia and Malaysia. We also hold certification from our timber importers confirming that their suppliers operate sustainable replanting programmes, helping to ensure responsible forestry practices.
Our timber products are available in a range of standard opaque paint finishes and translucent wood stains. However, we can also finish your windows and doors in virtually any colour.
Whether you’d like to match a specific Farrow & Ball shade, a RAL colour, or another bespoke finish, our premium Teknos AquaTop coating system can be colour matched to meet your exact requirements.
At Broadland Windows, we supply beautifully crafted timber entrance doors in a wide range of traditional and contemporary styles, all individually designed to complement your home.
Our wooden entrance doors are manufactured from durable Sapele hardwood and are available in our standard opaque paint finishes, translucent stains or virtually any bespoke colour.
You can further personalise your door with a choice of handles, letterplates and hinges, together with optional extras such as spy holes and security chains.
Every timber door also features:
- Multi-point locking system
- Triple adjustable hinges
- High-performance weather seals
- Energy-efficient double glazed sealed units
These features provide excellent security, comfort and thermal efficiency, helping to reduce heat loss and potentially lower your energy bills.
Yes. We supply and install stylish Crittall-style aluminium internal doors, offering the popular slimline steel-look aesthetic.
Please note that we do not supply or install timber internal doors.
Yes. While we do not supply cat flaps ourselves, we are happy to install one during the fitting of your new door, provided you supply the cat flap.
If you’re considering adding a cat flap, simply let your Broadland Windows consultant know during your initial consultation so we can ensure the correct glass or panel is manufactured for your new door.
Conservatories FAQs
Broadland Windows Roof Glass combines several advanced glazing technologies into one high-performance sealed unit, helping to create a more comfortable conservatory throughout the year.
Its self-cleaning coating uses natural daylight and rainfall to break down and wash away dirt, reducing the need for manual cleaning.
The solar control layer helps minimise heat build-up, glare and UV fading of furniture and furnishings, while the insulated inner pane significantly reduces heat loss during colder months.
Our roof glass is available in Neutral, Aqua, or Blue tint options to suit the style and performance requirements of your conservatory.
As every Broadland Windows conservatory, orangery, glass extension and WarmRoof extension is made to order, installation times vary depending on the complexity of the design.
If planning permission is required, approval can take up to eight weeks. Where building regulations approval is also necessary, this may add a further four weeks.
The good news is that Broadland Windows manages the entire process on your behalf, including planning applications and building regulations where required, while keeping you informed every step of the way.
Yes. In addition to residential projects, we regularly install conservatories and glazed extensions for commercial clients.
Previous projects have included:
- Hotels
- Care homes
- Educational buildings
- Other commercial premises
Whatever the application, we provide the same high standards of design, manufacture and installation.
Absolutely.
Whether you choose a uPVC, aluminium or timber conservatory, Broadland Windows uses advanced glazing technology, high-quality insulation and premium construction materials to ensure your conservatory remains comfortable throughout every season.
Your designer will carefully consider the position of your conservatory, whether it faces north, south, east or west, before recommending the most suitable glazing, ventilation and heating options to maximise year-round comfort.
Security and safety are a priority in every conservatory we build.
We use high-specification toughened safety glass that complies with BS6206 Class A and BS5713 standards. This specially heat-treated glass is considerably stronger than standard glass and, in the unlikely event it breaks, shatters into small blunt fragments rather than dangerous sharp shards.
Combined with our quality frames and secure locking systems, this helps create a conservatory that is both safe and secure.
Every Broadland Windows conservatory is individually designed and made to measure, allowing us to accommodate everything from compact porches to large bespoke glass extensions.
The main restrictions usually relate to:
- The size of your property
- Your chosen conservatory style
- Local planning requirements
- Building regulations where applicable
Our experienced advisors will guide you through these considerations and manage any necessary planning or building control applications on your behalf wherever possible.
Because every Broadland Windows conservatory is individually designed, there isn’t a standard price.
The final cost depends on several factors, including:
- Size
- Style
- Materials
- Roof type
- Glazing specification
- Optional features
Our designers will discuss your requirements in detail before providing a tailored quotation based on your exact project.
We offer free, no-obligation consultations to help you explore your options and receive an accurate quotation.
Whether planning permission is required depends on several factors, including the size of your conservatory, your property’s classification and how the new structure will connect to your home.
If planning permission is needed, Broadland Windows takes care of the entire process for you. We prepare and submit the necessary documentation, liaise with your local authority and keep you updated throughout the application.
Where possible, we submit applications electronically through the Government Planning Portal to help speed up the process.
Although they’re often confused, planning permission and building regulations serve different purposes.
Planning permission considers how your conservatory will affect the appearance of your property and the surrounding area.
Building regulations ensure the conservatory is constructed safely and meets structural and thermal performance standards.
Many conservatories are exempt from building regulations, but every project is different. Broadland Windows will determine exactly what approvals are required and manage the entire process on your behalf.
Even where building regulations approval isn’t necessary, every Broadland Windows conservatory is designed and built to meet current construction standards, ensuring a high-quality, long-lasting installation.
